Description:

Work with sensors, analog to digital converters (a/d), and computer programming to build interactive multimedia systems.

Background:

Last year the Gould MIDI lab received a gift of equipment to build interactive multimedia  devices, including the I-CUBE digitizer, and a wide array of electronic sensors, and software from Infusion Systems.  Due to time constraints and complexity, it has not been integrated into the current music or computer science curriculum.  The following Web link - http://www.infusionsystems.com/fsd.html?/culture/intro.html&2/culture/list.html%3

gives examples of  how these systems are used in college level music and engineering courses.

The specific goals would be to:

Texts and reference materials

MIDI for the Professional by Paul D. Lehrman and Tim Tully

The I-CUBE reference manual by Infusion Systems

Microsoft Visual Basic Programmers guide Version 6.0 by Microsoft Press

The Computer Music Tutorial by Curtis Roads

The Microsoft online Knowledge Base (for details of Windows API multimedia functions) http://support.Microsoft.com

The Infusion Systems website (for technical reference, research on sensors, links other multimedia projects, and links to experts in the field)

Evaluation:

A written description of the project, design goals, and a timeline will be required by the end of the second week. The remaining evaluation will be based on the ability to meet  those goals and the specific goals outlined above.
